New dangerous airbags: Chinese origin, installed after accidents – Vafeadis' response regarding Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Road Transport has issued a warning about potentially dangerous Chinese-made replacement airbags. The warning follows an alert from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding airbags manufactured by Jilin Province Detiannuo Automobile Safety System Co (DTN), linked to deaths and injuries in the U.S. These airbags, typically installed after accidents, may rupture and eject metal fragments upon deployment. Cypriot authorities believe these airbags are not currently in Cyprus but urge importers, sellers, and consumers to report any possession or sales of these airbags. The department will inform relevant services and consumer protection agencies and monitor the situation, issuing further announcements if needed.
