Nicosia hosts the 10th Copenhagen Group conference on sports integrity

Nicosia is hosting the 10th conference of the Copenhagen Group on May 5-6, focusing on combating match-fixing and corruption in sports. The event is organized by the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee (ESPC) under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. ESPC President Stefanos Skordis stated that the committee has completed over 70 investigations, leading to more than 10 criminal cases. Participants include over 40 representatives from international organizations and the Council of Europe. Furthermore, a joint meeting between the Cypriot ESPC and the Greek National Platform for Sports Integrity (EPATHLA) was held to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This follows their June 2024 Memorandum of Understanding. Cyprus aims to ratify the Macolin Convention to further align its legislative framework with European standards. The conference serves as a platform to discuss cross-border strategies for preventing sports manipulation.
