Shipping Deputy Minister discusses artificial intelligence in maritime sector

Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hatzimanoli addressed an awards ceremony for the Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies program at MIEEK Limassol. The event centered on the theme 'Artificial Intelligence in Shipping: Necessity and Challenges.' Hatzimanoli highlighted that AI is currently transforming fleet management, maritime transport optimization, safety, and sustainability. She emphasized the critical need for specialized skills and data management expertise to adapt to these technological shifts. The minister referred to the Nicosia Declaration, signed by European ministers, which promotes education and lifelong learning as essential pillars for the industry. She stated that aligning education with labor market demands is a priority for the government’s maritime strategy. The minister praised the MIEEK Limassol school for its curriculum, noting its responsiveness to current industry requirements. She stressed that integrating technological education is vital for preparing the next generation of maritime professionals.
