President Christodoulides visits the United Arab Emirates
President Nikos Christodoulides visited the United Arab Emirates to meet with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan following a tripartite summit in Amman. The visit, confirmed on May 7, 2026, served as a gesture of solidarity from the Republic of Cyprus regarding recent security challenges faced by the UAE. Key agenda items included regional stability, maritime security, the need for de-escalation in the Middle East, and the IMEC infrastructure project. Both nations reviewed their bilateral cooperation, specifically focusing on the Joint Action Plan for 2026-2030. Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos highlighted the strategic nature of this partnership and the importance of EU-UAE relations. Diplomatic coordination was reinforced following previous high-level meetings on March 9 and March 12. The Cypriot government emphasized that this meeting strengthens the strategic depth of relations between Nicosia and Abu Dhabi.
