President Christodoulides visits the UAE following regional security escalations
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides visited the United Arab Emirates following a trilateral summit in Amman, Jordan. The visit aimed to express solidarity with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan amidst ongoing regional tensions. Reports indicate the UAE faced missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran, occurring between May 4 and May 5, which caused damage to an oil refinery in Fujairah and resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals. Iran has denied responsibility for these specific operations. During his visit, President Christodoulides discussed de-escalation, maritime security, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Diplomatic ties were further highlighted by the March 9 visit of the UAE Foreign Minister to Cyprus and the March 12 visit of the Cypriot Foreign Minister to the UAE. The President emphasized that regional stability is inextricably linked to European security. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral strategic relations and maintaining regional peace.
