Local authorities clarify status of Trozena village following false rumors
The Community Council of Arsos-Gerovasa/Trozena has officially refuted viral social media claims that the abandoned village of Trozena, located between the Limassol and Paphos districts, has been fully purchased by Israeli investors who are allegedly blocking public access. Officials clarified that there is no ban on entry, no security guards are stationed there, and the public remains free to visit. While some property has been acquired by an Israeli-affiliated company, the council stated that this involved private sales from willing owners, covering approximately 70% to 80% of existing structures rather than the entire area. Authorities also dismissed rumors concerning the demolition of the Agios Georgios church, noting that the investor has instead contributed to the maintenance and upgrading of the religious site. The village has been largely abandoned since the late 1980s. The council views the investment as a significant opportunity for regional economic growth and job creation, noting that ten families are currently employed by the project. Residents and visitors who encounter any issues with access are urged to report them to the authorities for immediate investigation.
