Researcher releases new photograph of a 1974 Cypriot prisoner of war

Researcher Odysseas Christou has published a photograph documenting an unidentified Greek-Cypriot National Guard reservist captured during the 1974 conflict. The image shows the prisoner with his eyes blindfolded and his hands tied behind his back, standing in front of a car alongside other men, including an individual identified as a possible Turkish officer. The photograph was reportedly taken near the chapel of Saint Demetrios in the Mandres Kaimakliou area, south of Mia Milia village. This location is historically linked to sightings of a vehicle often referred to as the 'black Mercedes' in testimonies regarding missing persons. Christou, who characterizes the prisoner as a 'giant' due to his stature, is currently seeking information to identify the man and clarify his fate. While the photo is considered an important investigative lead, no definitive evidence regarding the man's identity or ultimate outcome has been established yet. This is the first time the image has been publicized in the Greek-Cypriot community as part of an ongoing search for 1974 conflict missing persons.
