Greek Prime Minister hosts German Foreign Minister to discuss Middle East stability

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Athens on Monday to discuss regional security, specifically focusing on the Middle East. The meeting occurred ahead of the Defence Exhibition Athens scheduled for Tuesday. Mitsotakis emphasized the geographical proximity of Greece and Cyprus to the Middle East, noting a strategic interest in peaceful resolutions. Both leaders addressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Mitsotakis expressed that Greece aims to act as a bridge-builder, utilizing its constructive relations with regional countries. Furthermore, the discussions covered the necessity of European Union involvement in the region following potential peace agreements and the importance of supporting the government and armed forces of Lebanon. Wadephul noted that with Greece assuming the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of next year, bilateral efforts regarding regional stability must be intensified.
