Progress report on air conditioning installation in Cypriot schools
The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of Cyprus reports progress in installing air conditioning systems across the national school network. By the upcoming summer examination period, all lyceums will be fully and permanently equipped, and examination rooms in gymnasiums will be air-conditioned. Currently, all kindergartens and a significant number of primary schools already possess functioning cooling systems. The Ministry aims to complete the permanent installation of air conditioning in all gymnasiums by September 2024. The project for primary schools is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. Officials highlighted that the primary technical challenge involves upgrading outdated electrical infrastructure in older school buildings to ensure safety before the air conditioning units are installed. The Ministry emphasizes that this comprehensive upgrade is necessary to address decades of neglect in school building maintenance.
