Tahsin Ertugruloglu criticizes Cyprus-Israel cooperation
The Turkish Cypriot official Tahsin Ertugruloglu recently labeled the cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Israel as a hostile alliance during an interview with the Turkish newspaper Sabah. He claimed that this partnership threatens regional stability and could lead to significant future consequences for the Greek Cypriot side. Ertugruloglu asserted that Turkey's rational actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, including the deployment of F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems, have effectively neutralized potential threats. He described these military reinforcements as essential for the security of the Turkish Cypriot community. Furthermore, he drew comparisons between Zionist interests and historical expansionist ideals, alleging that these powers share geopolitical objectives in the region. He emphasized that the survival of the Turkish Cypriot entity remains strictly dependent on continued military and political support from Turkey. The official concluded by reaffirming the necessity of a strong Turkish presence on the island to ensure security.
