Larnaca mayor questions progress and transparency of port and marina project

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras has publicly challenged claims made by Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeadis regarding the renovation of the city's marina and port infrastructure. Vyras asserted that, contrary to official statements, no formal tender process for significant infrastructure repairs has been initiated, noting only minor makeshift fixes. During a meeting held on April 16 with the Minister and Larnaca EOA President Angelos Chatzicharalambous, it was agreed that a corrected study would be presented by early May, followed by an analytical master plan by late June. Vyras questioned the readiness of the docking projects, specifically asking if complete construction designs, wave impact studies, and essential utility plans for water, electricity, and internet are finalized. He highlighted that he seeks transparency and clear commitments rather than public confrontation. The Mayor demanded clarification on whether current studies cover only the docking area or the entire scope of the development. These questions remain unanswered, leading Vyras to query the basis upon which local authorities are being asked to consent to the proposed works.
