Larnaca mayor questions port and marina redevelopment plans

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras has publicly challenged the Cypriot government regarding the progress and planning of the city's port and marina redevelopment project. Vyras expressed concerns over the lack of finalized construction plans and technical studies, specifically regarding wave dynamics and basic infrastructure such as electricity, water, and internet access. He questioned the validity of recent claims by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, who stated that docking projects were ready to commence and that existing infrastructure had already been renovated. Vyras countered that only minor repairs had been conducted and that the formal tender process for substantial renovation remains unprogressed. During a meeting held on April 16 between Vyras, Vafeades, and Larnaca district governor Andreas Hadjicharalambous, it was reportedly agreed that a corrected study on land use would be presented by early May. Furthermore, a detailed masterplan including financing and timelines was expected to be delivered by the end of June. The mayor emphasized that these questions are necessary to ensure transparency and accountability for the city's development.
