Record number of nominations submitted for 2026 parliamentary elections in Cyprus
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the submission process for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Cyprus, scheduled for May 24, 2026, concluded. According to Chief Returning Officer Elikkos Ilias, a record 753 nominations were submitted, surpassing the 659 candidates in 2021. These include 19 political combinations and individual candidates. In the Famagusta district, 141 candidates are competing for 11 seats, with no independent entries. Kyrenia district registered 41 candidates across 17 party lists for 3 seats, while Paphos saw 67 nominations from 16 parties and 2 independents for 5 seats. Nominations were also filed for representatives of the Maronite, Armenian, and Latin religious groups. Objections to any nominations can be filed within 24 hours of the closing deadline, which was 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Once objections are reviewed, the printing of ballot papers will proceed.
