Cyprus parliamentary election candidates file nominations

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, candidates for the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 24, 2026, began formally submitting their nominations across all electoral districts in Cyprus. The nomination process, which runs from 09:00 to 12:30, involves approximately 745 to 750 candidates competing for 56 seats in the House of Representatives. Most candidates represent 18 political parties, with a small number of independent contenders. The filing takes place at designated district administration offices, including the Archangel Cultural Foundation in Nicosia and the Ministry of Finance for the Kyrenia district. Candidates for the Maronite, Armenian, and Latin religious groups are submitting their nominations at the Ministry of Interior in Nicosia. Each candidacy requires a €500 fee and the signatures of four registered voters. This year’s candidate count marks a significant increase compared to the 659 participants in the 2021 elections.
