Cyprus parliamentary elections set for May 24, 2026
Cyprus will hold parliamentary elections on May 24, 2026, to elect 56 members of the House of Representatives for the 2026-2031 term. A record-breaking 753 candidates have submitted their nominations, representing 19 political parties and several independent candidates. This total marks an increase of 102 candidates compared to the 2021 elections. The seats are distributed among six electoral districts: 19 for Nicosia, 12 for Limassol, 11 for Famagusta, 6 for Larnaca, 5 for Paphos, and 3 for Kyrenia. Paphos gained an additional seat while Nicosia lost one due to population changes. Printing of the unified ballot papers, which feature a specific color for each district, is currently underway at the Government Printing Office and is scheduled for completion by May 14. Election authorities recently rejected a legal objection filed against a female candidate in Limassol, keeping the final list of candidates unchanged. There will be 1,200 polling stations across the country, and approximately 70.3% of the candidates are male.
