Retail trade indicators for March 2026
According to data from the Statistical Service, Cyprus retail trade showed growth in March 2026 compared to the same month in 2025. The Retail Trade Turnover Value Index increased by 7.8%, while the Volume Index rose by 5.8%. The information and communication equipment sector recorded the highest growth, with a 24.1% increase in value and a 35.3% increase in volume. Other household equipment, including furniture and appliances, saw a volume growth of 12.8%. Declines were observed in several sectors, with flowers, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand items dropping by 9.7% in volume and 5.1% in value. Food, beverage, and tobacco specialty stores also reported a 4.9% volume decrease. Discrepancies exist between reports regarding the exact percentage drop for clothing and footwear, with one source reporting a 6.9% decrease and another noting a minor decline of 0.8%. For the first quarter of 2026, the overall retail trade index grew by 6.6% in value and 6.4% in volume compared to the first quarter of 2025.
