Independent Anti-Corruption Authority updates on 'Mafia State' report

The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority has received a 3,000-page investigative report regarding journalist Makarios Drousiotis's book 'Mafia State'. A four-member investigation team, led by Australian official Gabrielle Louise McIntyre and including Andreas Efthymiou, Charilaos Chrysanthou, and Orestis Nikita, conducted the probe. The investigation involved 214 sessions, 150 witnesses, and 793 exhibits submitted by 41 legal and government entities. The authority confirmed the receipt of the report by the April 30, 2026, deadline but stated that no findings would be released at this time to allow for internal review by a working group. Transparency Commissioner Haris Poyiadjis emphasized that the report is extensive and requires thorough evaluation, with a final public announcement expected before the end of June 2026. The authority explicitly stated there is no link between the timing of its eventual findings and the upcoming parliamentary elections on May 24, 2026. If criminal activity is established, the authority will refer the findings to the attorney-general.
