Preparations finalized for Cyprus parliamentary candidate nominations

Assistant Chief Returning Officer Menelaos Vasiliou announced that preparations are complete for the parliamentary candidate nomination process scheduled for Wednesday, May 6. Candidates can submit their applications between 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM at designated locations across the districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos. Regarding the eligibility of candidates under investigation, including a case involving the Active Citizens - Movement of United Cypriot Hunters, Vasiliou clarified that Article 64 of the Constitution mandates that candidates must be at least 21 years old and possess a clean criminal record regarding dishonorable offenses. Additionally, a formal letter from DIKO President Nikolas Papadopoulos concerning candidate vetting is currently being reviewed by the Legal Service and other competent state authorities. The parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on May 24. No pending procedural issues were reported by the election office ahead of the nomination day.
