Cypriot parliamentary candidate lists finalized for May 24 elections
The submission period for the 753 candidates running in the May 24, 2026, parliamentary elections in Cyprus has concluded. Only one objection was filed and subsequently rejected in the Limassol district, leaving the lists for Larnaca, Famagusta, and other districts undisputed. The Legal Service confirmed that 10 candidates with prior criminal convictions remain eligible, as their offenses did not constitute moral turpitude. Due to the record number of candidates, election officials announced that double-sided ballots will be used for the first time in most districts to accommodate the volume. Election Commissioner Elikos Ilias stated that approximately 1,200 polling stations will be operational, including 21 abroad, staffed by 6,000 personnel. Printing of the ballots is scheduled to begin immediately following the final validation process. Women comprise 33% of the total candidate pool, marking an increase from 24% in 2011. The estimated cost for conducting the elections is 5.4 million euros.
