Candidates submit nominations for the may 2026 cyprus legislative elections
On May 6, 2026, the formal submission of candidacies for the Cypriot parliamentary elections took place across all districts. Approximately 745 candidates are competing for 56 seats in the House of Representatives, representing at least 18 political parties and several independent individuals. Specifically for the Nicosia district, official records indicate 261 candidates were submitted, including 180 men and 81 women, vying for 19 available seats. The process also included nominations for representatives of the Maronite, Armenian, and Latin religious groups. General Election Commissioner Elikkos Elia noted that the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Legal Service, is currently reviewing numerous objections regarding candidate qualifications. Despite the large volume of applications, officials confirmed the process is proceeding according to legal requirements. The elections are scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with 198,553 registered voters expected to cast their ballots across 689 polling stations.
