Unseasonal snowfall recorded on Troodos mountains in Cyprus
Between the night of May 3 and May 4, Cyprus experienced severe weather conditions characterized by heavy rain, strong winds, and hail on the coast. In the Troodos mountain range, an unseasonal snowfall occurred, with snow levels reaching 14 centimeters on Mount Olympus by 5:00 a.m. on May 4. The Meteorological Service issued two yellow weather alerts, effective until 08:00 on May 4. Traffic on the Paphos-Limassol highway was disrupted due to water accumulation. While a private weather portal, Kitas Weather, labeled the event as historic, forecasts suggest conditions will improve throughout the day on May 4. Temperatures are expected to reach 18°C in inland areas and 8°C in the mountains, with winds ranging from 5 to 9 on the Beaufort scale in coastal areas. Forecasts for the following days indicate continuing rainfall across the island.
