Ukrainian drone strikes residential building in Moscow
In the early morning hours, at least one Ukrainian combat drone struck a residential building in a western district of Moscow, an area known for hosting several foreign embassies. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the incident via Telegram, noting that emergency services were deployed to the site. No casualties were reported as a result of the impact. The mayor further stated that Russian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed two additional drones in the vicinity. This event occurs just days before the annual Victory Day parade on May 9, an event which the Russian Ministry of Defense announced would proceed without the participation of tanks or missile systems this year. While Ukrainian drone activity is frequently reported near Russian military or energy infrastructure, direct damage to civilian urban facilities in the capital remains rare. Russian officials maintain that most inbound drones are neutralized by defensive systems before reaching their intended targets.
