United Airlines flight strikes vehicle and pole during approach in New Jersey
On Sunday, shortly before 14:00 local time, a United Airlines Boeing 767-400 flight UA169 from Venice was approaching Newark Liberty International Airport when it struck a lighting pole and vehicles on the New Jersey Turnpike. The landing gear and the bottom of the fuselage reportedly made contact with an H&S Bakery truck and a Jeep. The falling pole subsequently hit the Jeep, according to police reports. The truck driver sustained minor abrasions, was hospitalized, and was subsequently discharged. There were 221 passengers and 10 crew members on board the aircraft, all of whom remained uninjured. The plane successfully landed and taxied to its gate without further incident. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the circumstances of the event.
