EU agriculture and fisheries ministers meet in Nicosia
EU ministers are gathering in Nicosia on May 4-5 for informal meetings under the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Hosted at the Filoxenia Conference Centre, the sessions are chaired by Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panayiotou. Monday’s focus is on enhancing the resilience and strategic autonomy of the EU agri-food sector, with participation from EU Commissioner Christophe Hansen, MEP Veronika Vrecionová, and representatives from COPA, COGECA, and CEJA. On Tuesday, the agenda shifts to the informal Council of Fisheries Ministers. This session will involve EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis and European Parliament Fisheries Committee Vice-Chair Paulo do Nascimento Cabral. Discussions are scheduled to center on the future of the Common Fisheries Policy and a decade-long implementation assessment by the European Commission.
