Applications open for the 'Mortgage to Rent' scheme

The Ministry of Finance has announced the reopening of the 'Mortgage to Rent' scheme, with the application period running until July 31, 2026. The program targets vulnerable borrowers with non-performing housing loans secured by their primary residence. Eligible applicants include social welfare recipients with homes valued up to €250,000, as well as those rejected from the 'Estia' and 'Oikia' schemes due to non-viability, with property values up to €350,000. Under the scheme, ownership of the property is transferred to KEDIPES, which pays approximately 65% of the property value to the creditor to settle the loan. The original owners remain in the residence as tenants for up to 14 years, with the state covering a portion of the rent. Beneficiaries under 65 have the option to repurchase the property at a predetermined price after five years. Applications can be submitted online via the official KEDIPES portal or in physical form at provincial offices in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Paralimni.
