Hantavirus outbreak reported on MV Hondius cruise ship

Three people have died and three others have fallen ill following a suspected hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius. The vessel, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, departed from Ushuaia, Argentina, and was sailing toward Cape Verde with approximately 150 passengers. Health authorities, including the World Health Organization, are investigating the incident, noting that laboratory tests have confirmed the virus in at least one patient who is currently in intensive care in South Africa. The casualties include two Dutch nationals and a third individual whose reported nationality varies across sources between German and Dutch.
