Chlorakas Environmental Group reports fire risk from electrical cables

The Chlorakas Environmental and Cultural Group has requested immediate intervention from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus regarding a potential fire hazard. According to Andreas Kyriakou, president of the group, power lines are entangled with palm tree foliage on a sidewalk in the Orestiados area of Paphos. Dry leaves are in direct contact with the live cables, posing a significant risk of fire, particularly during high summer temperatures. The presence of nearby residential properties increases concerns regarding potential danger to human lives and private property. The group has called on the authorities to trim the trees, remove the dry foliage, and ensure the safety of the power line infrastructure. This issue highlights broader concerns regarding urban green space maintenance and infrastructure upkeep. Local authorities have not yet issued a formal response regarding the requested maintenance work.
