Candidate removed from Active Citizens-United Cypriot Hunters movement following stadium violence

A 38-year-old parliamentary candidate from the Active Citizens-United Cypriot Hunters movement was removed from their ballot following an alleged assault on a referee during a football match between Rotsidis Mammari and APOP. On Sunday, May 3, the Larnaca District Court ordered the suspect to be detained for three days pending further investigation into violence in sports. Police sources indicate the suspect was identified by the referee and an on-duty police officer, with video evidence of the incident being submitted for analysis. While the political movement officially removed the candidate, citing that his actions contradicted their values, they simultaneously claimed the party is facing a series of vandalisms against campaign materials. In their official statement, the movement noted the candidate denies all involvement and invoked the presumption of innocence. However, they stressed that any member found violating the law or failing to respect institutional values would not be permitted to remain within the party. The party also alleged they are being targeted by an orchestrated campaign of intimidation.
