President Christodoulides to attend European Political Community summit in Armenia
President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus will participate in the European Political Community summit taking place in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 4, 2026. During the plenary session on European security, the President will assume a coordinating role alongside leaders from Britain, France, Italy, and the President of the European Commission. This marks the first time Cyprus has held such a special role, with Christodoulides responsible for delivering both the opening and concluding remarks. The agenda also includes discussions on European connectivity, economic security, and multilateral meetings regarding Moldova and European drug enforcement initiatives. Defense and security remain primary focuses for Cyprus during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, emphasizing efforts to bolster EU deterrence. The President is accompanied by Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou and Deputy Director of his diplomatic office Nektarios Sotiriou. On the sidelines of the event, he will conduct bilateral talks with various heads of state and international organization leaders.
