President Christodoulides attends European Political Community summit in Yerevan

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides traveled to Yerevan, Armenia, to participate in the European Political Community (EPC) summit held on May 4, 2026. This summit represents the first instance where Cyprus has assumed a special role in an EPC plenary session, with President Christodoulides delivering both the opening remarks and concluding comments. He acted as a coordinator for a plenary panel discussion focused on European security, attended by the leaders of Italy, France, Britain, and the President of the European Commission. The President's agenda also included participating in thematic discussions on connectivity, economic security, and international efforts to combat drug trafficking, as well as a multilateral meeting concerning Moldova. On the sidelines of the event, he held bilateral meetings with various heads of state, government officials, and leaders of international organizations. The summit addressed regional security in the South Caucasus, the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, and energy cooperation. Defense and security remain top priorities for the Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union, aiming to strengthen the bloc's deterrent capacity.
