President Christodoulides attends European Political Community summit in Armenia and prepares for defense conference in Athens

President Nikos Christodoulides participated in the 8th European Political Community summit held in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 4, 2026. During the summit, he moderated a plenary session on European cohesion and unity, engaging with leaders from the UK, France, Italy, and the European Commission. He emphasized that continental security requires an integrated, 360-degree approach in response to hybrid threats. Furthermore, the President participated in a meeting of core states concerning Moldova, highlighting progress during the Cypriot EU Council Presidency and the potential for opening negotiation chapters in June. Bilaterally, he met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to discuss air connectivity, tourism, and trade relations. Following the summit, the President traveled to Athens to attend the DEFEA defense industry conference. On May 5, he is scheduled to meet with Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias and European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius to discuss defense initiatives. He is accompanied by Minister of Defense Vassilis Palmas and Deputy Government Spokesman Giannis Antoniou.
