38-year-old parliamentary candidate arrested for assaulting football referee
A 38-year-old man from Limassol was arrested following an incident at a football match between Rotsidis Mammari and APOP Parekklisias in the STOK integration league. Towards the end of the game, an unidentified person threw a plastic bottle at an assistant referee. Simultaneously, the 38-year-old suspect entered the field and punched the official. The referee was subsequently taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he underwent medical examinations and was discharged. The suspect, who is currently a parliamentary candidate in Limassol, is scheduled to appear before the Larnaca District Court to face a detention order. The Kofinou Regional Police Station is conducting an investigation into the assault. While the suspect is a known figure, initial reports focus on the criminal investigation regarding the violence at the sporting event.
