Infant evacuated from Skopelos to Volos over potential poisoning

On May 1st, a 19-month-old infant was rushed from Skopelos to the hospital in Volos following concerns that the child may have ingested rat poison. The infant was initially examined at the Skopelos Regional Clinic, where doctors determined that a transfer to the Volos Hospital was necessary for specialized care. The evacuation faced significant delays due to high winds. An initial attempt using a private vessel had to be abandoned when the boat was forced to return to port. A second vessel was subsequently dispatched from Alonissos to complete the transfer successfully. Upon arrival at the Volos Hospital, medical staff performed a stomach lavage as a precautionary measure. Although the child has shown no immediate symptoms of poisoning, medical personnel have placed the infant under close monitoring for at least 48 hours to rule out potential complications.
