Unseasonable cold weather brings snowfall to Greece in early May
A cold front affecting Greece on May 1st and 2nd caused a sharp temperature drop of up to 10 degrees Celsius within a few hours. The National Observatory of Athens reported that freezing temperatures were recorded across several regions of northern Greece on the morning of May 2nd. The lowest temperature, -3.2 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Seli, Imathia. Other freezing temperatures were noted in Kato Nevrokopi, Vevi, Florina, Perithori, Plikati, and Neochori, ranging from -0.5 to -1.4 degrees Celsius. Mountainous areas, including Mount Parnassos, experienced snow accumulation of 3-5 centimeters. Additionally, snowfall was observed in the mountainous region of Corinthia, specifically covering the road from Feneos to Zacholi. These conditions persisted despite the early May calendar date, contrasting with typical spring weather.
