Government to proceed with separate development of Larnaca marina and port

The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis, announced that the state will proceed with the development of the Larnaca marina and port as two separate but simultaneous projects. This new approach, according to the Ministry, is intended to mitigate risks and ensure that one project does not negatively affect the other, unlike the previous model. The state, represented by the Cyprus Ports Authority, will be actively involved in the implementation. Minister Vafeadis stated that the relevant study supporting this change has not been contested by the Larnaca Municipality. He addressed concerns raised by the Mayor of Larnaca regarding potential project cancellation, describing such fears as unfounded. The government emphasized that the project is expected to move forward as planned to meet public expectations that have persisted for approximately 20 years. This clarification was provided in an interview on May 2, 2026, following discussions about delays in the long-anticipated development.
