US approves $8.6 billion in military sales to Middle Eastern allies

On May 1, 2026, the U.S. State Department announced the approval of military equipment sales to Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, totaling over $8.6 billion. The package includes Patriot missile systems and APKWS equipment for Qatar valued at approximately $5 billion combined. Israel is set to acquire APKWS systems for an estimated $992.4 million, while Kuwait will receive an Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) worth $2.5 billion. The United Arab Emirates will receive APKWS systems valued at $147.6 million. This announcement follows a period of regional instability, occurring nine weeks after the start of U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran and three weeks into a ceasefire. Reports note that Qatar faced Iranian strikes during the conflict. The proposed sales must now be approved by the U.S. Congress.
