Water supply cuts cancelled for summer in Cyprus
On Friday, April 24, the Advisory Committee for Water Management decided to cancel the 10% water supply reduction that had been in effect since January. Following beneficial rainfall, the country's dam capacity has reached 39.2%, with a total annual inflow of 97.8 million cubic meters. General Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Andreas Grigoriou, confirmed that despite current stability, the government remains on alert as dam levels remain below 50%. Provinces including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Famagusta will receive 5% more water than in 2025. Conversely, farmers have expressed disappointment regarding the 0% water allocation for seasonal crops. Additionally, the government has postponed the planned change in water pricing policy until early 2027. Officials stated that additional desalination plants are being planned to further bolster water reserves.
