Police investigate hand grenade explosion at a residence in Paphos

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at approximately 10:30 PM, a military defensive hand grenade exploded in the yard of a residence in the village of Agia Marinouda, Paphos. The home belongs to a couple aged 74 and 75, whose husband is reportedly the owner of a clinic in Paphos. No injuries were reported, but the blast shattered windows at the property. Police identified a 59-year-old suspect, who was arrested following the discovery of evidence connecting him to this incident and a separate attempted arson case involving a gas cylinder outside the same home on April 29. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court for a detention order hearing. Authorities are examining potential motives, including past financial disputes involving the clinic owner.
