Reports suggest internal conflict in Iran regarding foreign minister
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are reportedly considering the removal of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to sources cited by Iran International, the leadership accuses Araghchi of coordinating nuclear policy with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rather than the presidential office. Specifically, he is accused of following instructions from Ahmad Vahidi, a senior IRGC figure, without informing President Pezeshkian. Reports indicate that over the past two weeks, Araghchi has acted independently of the administration's official policy. President Pezeshkian has allegedly expressed dissatisfaction and threatened to dismiss the minister if this practice continues. While critics characterize Araghchi as a mouthpiece for the Revolutionary Guards contributing to polarization, this tension highlights broader divisions within the Iranian leadership.
