Escalation in pre-election tensions between DISY and Odysseas Michaelides

In the final stage of the pre-election period, the Democratic Rally (DISY) and former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides have engaged in a public dispute. DISY, based at Pindarou, accused Michaelides of causing delays and excessive costs for the Polis Chrysochous – Paphos road project through his interventions during his tenure as Auditor General. Michaelides rejected these accusations and launched a counter-attack, accusing DISY president Annita Demetriou and the party of coordinating with the Christodoulides administration. He further criticized the policies of former President Nicos Anastasiades and current DISY leadership. A digital controversy also emerged regarding a cropped photograph used by Michaelides in his response, which excluded parts of the original image showing Demetriou alongside former party leaders. The political discourse has also broadened to include debates between DISY and AKEL regarding the upcoming elections on May 24. DISY argues that the election presents a choice between continued growth and policies leading to potential new taxes.
