Fteri beach in Kefalonia ranked best in Europe
Fteri Beach on the Greek island of Kefalonia has been named the best beach in Europe, according to a list of the top 50 European beaches voted on by more than 1,000 professionals. Globally, Fteri took second place, ranking just behind Entalula Beach in the Philippines. The beach is characterized by white limestone cliffs, white pebbles, sand, and turquoise waters. Access is primarily limited to travel by boat, with only a challenging hiking path available as an alternative, which helps protect the area from mass tourism. Seven Greek beaches appeared on the list of the top 50 in Europe: Fteri (1st), Porto Katsiki (5th), Porto Timoni (9th), Voutoumi (22nd), Hovolo (29th), Sarakiniko (31st), and Elafonisi (44th). The ranking highlights the isolated nature and unique geological features of these coastal locations.
