Government spokesperson addresses transparency and investigation requests
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the executive branch does not and should not have knowledge of the contents of ongoing police investigations, including the case involving 'Santi'. Regarding the Independent Authority Against Corruption's investigation into allegations of a 'mafia state', Letymbiotis reiterated that the government respects the autonomy of independent institutions and will only be informed of findings upon their formal publication. He also addressed inquiries regarding the 'black van' case, following an AKEL MEP's request for its reopening and a letter sent by the AKEL General Secretary to the President on April 2. Letymbiotis maintained that political forces must consistently respect the independence of institutions. He emphasized that past investigations were conducted under previous administrations, not the current one. He invited anyone possessing new evidence to submit it to the appropriate authorities for review. The spokesperson linked the timing of these political criticisms to the current pre-election period.
