Cyprus government reports progress on foot-and-mouth disease compensation

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced that discussions regarding compensation for livestock affected by foot-and-mouth disease are yielding results. He stated that the proposed compensation amounts have exceeded the initial expectations of the farmers. The dialogue has expanded beyond mere financial payments to include plans for the replacement and restoration of livestock to assist farmers in resuming operations. Letymbiotis emphasized that the government is strictly adhering to EU veterinary protocols rather than seeking a political solution. The President of the Republic is being kept informed of the progress and is overseeing the efforts. Currently, no further meetings between the President and the livestock farmers are scheduled. Detailed announcements regarding the final compensation packages will be made by the relevant ministry in the near future.
