Temur Ketsbaia criticizes the state of Georgian football
Temur Ketsbaia, currently managing Dynamo Tbilisi, has publicly criticized the lack of investment and strategic development in Georgian football. During a national television appearance, Ketsbaia drew a contrast between Georgia and Cyprus. He noted that despite its small size, Cyprus is on track to potentially qualify two teams for the UEFA Champions League. In contrast, Ketsbaia stated that Georgian clubs struggle to advance past the first qualifying round. He argued that a lack of local investment and patriotism regarding the sport is holding back progress. According to Ketsbaia, Georgia cannot develop competitive teams solely through domestic resources. He emphasized the necessity of attracting external funding and recruiting foreign players to improve performance. The coach lamented that without proactive financial support, the country is essentially waiting for unrealistic external solutions rather than building a sustainable system.
