Inquiry report on the 'Mafia State' book submitted to the Anti-Corruption Authority
A four-member investigative team has formally delivered its final, binding report regarding the allegations of corruption detailed in Makarios Drousiotis' book, 'Mafia State', to the Independent Authority Against Corruption. The investigation, which spanned over two years and two months at a cost exceeding €1 million, focused on claims involving former President Nicos Anastasiades. The evidence dossier is extensive, consisting of several hundred pages and between 490 to 550 exhibits, including both physical documents and digital files. A total of 129 witnesses, including incumbent President Nikos Christodoulides, current and former state officials, were interviewed. The investigative team was led by Australian expert Gabrielle Louise McIntyre. While sources vary on whether public announcements are expected as early as next week or after the parliamentary elections, the Authority will eventually present its findings and legal conclusions. Former President Anastasiades has categorically denied the allegations and initiated a lawsuit against Drousiotis for defamation.
