Xylofagou to install a replica of its historical watchtower
The village of Xylofagou in Cyprus has commissioned the construction of a scaled-down replica of its medieval watchtower to be installed at a local roundabout. The project was announced by the head of the community council, Giorgos Ioulianos, as part of a development strategy following the village's entry into the Larnaca Tourism Development Association. Designed by architect Doros Papakonstantinou, the monument is scheduled for completion by the end of May. The original circular tower, built by the Venetians, is located at Kokkinos Gremos and historically served as a maritime observation post. The site was later utilized by the British military during the Second World War to detect enemy ships. The project aims to highlight the regional history of the area, which is known for its steep coastal cliffs and caves, including the notable Spilios tis Englezas.
