Nine dead in bus crash in western Bolivia

A bus accident occurred on Wednesday in the village of Chayacollo, western Bolivia, resulting in nine deaths and 22 injuries. The crash took place on a road connecting Pisiga, near the Chilean border, with the city of Oruro. Among the victims was a newborn baby who died after being transported to a medical facility. Local traffic police director Nandy Torrico confirmed the casualty figures and stated that all injured passengers have been taken to regional hospitals. Preliminary police investigations suggest that a combination of speeding and driver fatigue caused the vehicle to overturn. The 24-year-old driver is among the injured and tested negative for alcohol. Authorities continue to investigate the incident as part of their broader efforts to manage road safety in the country, where approximately 1,400 people die annually due to driver negligence and mechanical failures.
