Public concern in northern Cyprus over Turkish military jet flights
Residents in the occupied areas of Nicosia and Kyrenia reported low-altitude flights by Turkish F-16 fighter jets, leading to public concern. Erhan Arikli, the so-called Minister of Transportation, addressed the reports during a broadcast on Kanal T, stating that there was no immediate danger. He asserted that the presence of the aircraft is not merely symbolic and that Turkey is responding to perceived military posturing by the Republic of Cyprus. Arikli stated that they would not remain silent regarding actions in southern Cyprus. Conversely, official sources from the Republic of Cyprus clarified that the activity consisted of routine training flights. The jets involved have been stationed at the Ercan (Tymbou) airport for several weeks. Authorities emphasized that these were not emergency maneuvers or extraordinary military activities.
