Peter Magyar holds informal talks with Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels

Peter Magyar, the leader of the Tisza party and victor of the April 12 elections, held an informal meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels. The discussions focused on the necessary legal and constitutional changes required to unfreeze approximately 17 billion euros in EU funds, which were withheld due to concerns over the rule of law and corruption under the previous government of Viktor Orban. Both parties characterized the meeting as constructive. Magyar plans to return to Brussels during the week of May 25 to finalize a political agreement on the release of these funds. The European Commission clarified that the meeting was informal because Magyar has not yet officially assumed office. The Tisza party's two-thirds majority in parliament is expected to facilitate the rapid implementation of the reforms required to unlock the financial resources.
