Greek tourism organization presents 2026 strategy for Cypriot market
The Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) held an event in Nicosia on April 28, 2026, to outline its tourism strategy and new proposals for Cypriot travelers. Statistics presented indicated that approximately 600,000 Cypriots visited Greece in 2025, and Greece remains the primary holiday destination for Cyprus. Athena Spakouri, director of EOT Cyprus, emphasized a shift toward promoting regions focused on tradition and local hospitality alongside established tourism hubs. Officials noted that Greece and Cyprus act as complementary rather than competitive destinations, suggesting potential for joint initiatives to attract tourists from the United States and China. Ambassador Konstantinos Kollias highlighted the importance of frequent flight connections and the Limassol-Piraeus ferry route in maintaining these visitor levels. Despite challenges posed by regional instability, specifically the war in Iran, tourism representatives expressed optimism for the 2026 season. The Greek tourism product continues to diversify beyond traditional beach vacations to include cultural, religious, gastronomic, agrotourism, ecotourism, spa, and medical tourism segments.
